Road bikes are bicycles designed to take you as far and as fast as your legs can manage on paved surfaces. Road bike wheels don’t have to be as robust as those of mountain bikes, so they tend to have fewer spokes and lighter rims. Aerodynamics are important, so the rims are sometimes deeper (depth refers to the height of the rim cross-section when viewed from the side of the bike).
